Zhytomyr selects the topic for its first citizens’ assembly — sustainable mobility
On July 19, Zhytomyr hosted a Stakeholder Forum

On July 19, Zhytomyr hosted a Stakeholder Forum — the kickoff event as part of preparations for the city’s inaugural Citizens' Assembly, scheduled for the fall of 2025. The forum brought together representatives of local government, civil society organizations, the expert community, and engaged residents. Participants discussed three potential topics for the assembly: burial culture, sustainable housing policy, and urban mobility development.

Following the discussion, the preferred topic was selected: “Development of transport infrastructure and sustainable mobility in Zhytomyr.” This issue directly affects residents’ daily lives — influencing everything from convenience and safety to environmental sustainability and accessibility. Future deliberations will focus on finding solutions that address the needs of pedestrians, cyclists, drivers of private vehicles, and public transport users alike.
The forum also led to the formation of an advisory committee to support the preparation process. The committee will assist in shaping the agenda, selecting background materials, and coordinating communication efforts. Starting in August, 2,000 invitations will be distributed to households across the community. In September, 80 participants will be selected for the assembly through a stratified random sampling process.
