Zhytomyr residents, pre-registration for the Citizens’ Assembly is now open!
The Zhytomyr City Council and Kyiv School of Economics are piloting a new format of resident participation in decision-making — a citizens’ assembly.
This is an innovative tool of deliberative democracy, already successfully used in many countries across Europe and the world.
What is a citizens’ assembly?
It is a local democracy mechanism that reflects the community “in miniature”: 80 residents of Zhytomyr, of different ages, professions, educational backgrounds, and from various parts of the city, will be selected by lottery from among all pre-registered participants to work on an important issue of urban development.
Topic of the first assembly in Zhytomyr:
Transport Infrastructure and Sustainable Urban Mobility
Together, participants will discuss challenges and opportunities related to transport development, traffic safety, public transit, and walking or cycling.
The outcome will be a set of recommendations of various scales, which the city authorities have committed to publicly review.
Dates: October 25–26 and November 1–2, 2025
Daily schedule: 10:00–18:00
Compensation: participants will receive financial compensation for attending all four days of the event.
Please note: Registration is open until October 1.
Once pre-registration closes, a second stage of random selection (lottery) will be conducted to form the final list of 80 participants.
The organization of the Assembly and participant compensation is funded by the European Union within the international BRIDGE project.
